Laird LC-DW Super SolutionLaird Super Solution airplane model. This spiffy little biplane won the 1931 Bendix Race, piloted by James Doolittle and with an average speed of 217 mph. The next year, a retractable landing gear was added, but it failed during its test flight and Doolittle had to make a wheels up landing. After reentry into Earth's atmosphere it is controlled and brought in to an unpowered landing in the mode of a conventional fixed-wing airplane
