SphaleriteGem quality Sphalerite is found around the world in virtually every color of the rainbow except for blue and purple. This stone was cut in August of 2017 and shows a rich golden hue that is highlighted by flashes of yellow, blue green, gold and orange. Due to the high refractive index of Sphalerite, the material will dance with color under strong lighting. This stone probably looks best in direct sunlight, but any strong light will show off the color

This "Round Cabochon" cut gem has a beautiful colorless interior in transmitted light

and is certainly gem quality in clarity

and the smaller crystals are flaring off both sides

The majority of the specimens from this area are still labeled as being found at Upper New Street even though they were not found in the quarry itself

and this piece is a great example

This fine little sparkler is a very very slightly included "Round Brilliant" cut gem

The piece is well-formed with sharp blocky faces and is complete all around

The piece is in great condition

and that the “casts” were most likely after Anhydrite

so we will never see another crumb of these impressive specimens again

but all of the Brookite crystals are actually doubly terminated and
